Margin Balances

Outstanding Margin Balances

Stock held long on borrowed money and stock held short on borrowed stock, on the Tokyo and Nagoya markets, at each week's application date. Both sides are published on the same day in the same unit, which is what makes them comparable to each other. Share counts and yen values are different measures and are shown one at a time.

Margin Ratio

Stock bought on margin divided by stock sold short, in shares — the 信用倍率 a Japanese equity desk quotes about positioning. Above one, more stock is held long on borrowed money than is held short on borrowed stock. It is calculated here from the two published balances, not published as a series.

Balance Detail

The same balance cut two ways — by whose account it sits in, and by which kind of margin it is. Each cut adds to the same total, and that is checked at every ingest. Changes are on the week before and are calculated from the published levels.
