Corporate Finance
Sales, Profit and Investment
Each quarter against the same quarter a year earlier, for the industry and capital class chosen above. The survey is not seasonally adjusted, so a year on year reading is the honest one: it compares like with like. Profit swings far more than sales, and investment follows profit with a lag — that ordering is the whole chart.
Profit Margin by Capital Size
Ordinary profit as a share of sales, for the chosen industry, with the three capital classes drawn separately. Large companies and small ones live in different economies: the gap between the top line and the bottom one is the story of Japan's corporate sector since the 1990s, and it does not show in the all-sizes total.
Industry Detail
Every industry on the newest quarter, at the capital class chosen above. Amounts are the Ministry's own, in ¥ billion; the year-on-year changes and the margin are calculated from them. Click a column to rank by it. The three aggregates — all industries, manufacturing, non-manufacturing — are the Ministry's totals and contain the rows beneath them.
