Quarterly GDP
Real GDP Growth
Each quarter's change in real GDP, seasonally adjusted, from the published levels. The annualized rate is what the quarter would add up to over a year at the same pace; it is the number in the headlines, and it is four times as volatile as the plain quarterly change it is built from.
Contributions to Growth
How much of each quarter's real GDP change came from households, from business investment, from stock-building, from government and from trade. Each bar is a demand component's change divided by the previous quarter's GDP, so the bars add up to the quarter's growth — apart from a small residual, which is the chain-linking gap the Cabinet Office publishes plus rounding, shown rather than hidden.
Component Detail
Every line of the expenditure account on the newest quarter, on all three bases. Levels are the Cabinet Office's own, in ¥ trillion; the growth rates are calculated from them. Reference lines — domestic demand, national income and the like — are published alongside the components and are listed beneath them.
